Heya...

Since I've seen Episode 1x08 of "Hawaii Five-0" I had this idea in my head... it was like a "pop-up" in my head *lol* I know I could have "shared" the plotbunny, but I kinda wanted to write this story myself *lol* Really... this fandom is doing me "no good", because now I'm even writing fanfics in english... which I've never done before *lol*

it's my 2nd Fanfic, and I think, it's a lot better than my first one... and if you like it too, it would be nice, if you'd comment ;-) Enjoy the Story!

Nightmare

“Steve, nooooo!”

Danny sat upright in his bed, shivering and panting heavily. His heart was racing and he felt like he could barely breathe. He’d had an awful nightmare. It had been agonizingly vivid. It still felt so real. Steve had been shot right in front of him, and he had bled to death in his arms. He’d held him tight when Steve took his final breath, and he hadn’t been able to do anything to help him.

Danny touched his face and realized that his cheeks were wet. He must have cried in his dream. The image of Steve’s lifeless eyes staring up at him vacantly as he died flashed through his mind. His stomach flipped and he began to feel nauseated. He got out of bed and opened the window to take a few deep breaths, but the queasiness would not subside.

He had to see Steve right now. He felt like he was losing it. He glanced down at his watch – three in the morning – Steve would so kill him, but right now he didn’t care. He needed to make sure that he was okay, that it was really just a dream. Maybe something was wrong. Maybe that was why he was feeling like this. He was probably just overreacting; the recent loss of his ex-partner had hit him pretty hard. But he had to know. The thought of losing Steve was unbearable. He just had to be okay.

His nightmare had shown Danny once more what he already knew. What he’d known since the day he had met Lieutenant Commander Steve McGarrett. Although he hadn’t wanted to admit it, even to himself, it was now impossible to deny: he had fallen head over heels for his partner. And on top of dealing with the complication of having feelings for a co-worker, he had to deal with the fact that his love would never be requited. Although Steve had told him recently that he wasn’t seeing Catherine anymore, that didn’t change the fact that he was obviously straight. Straight, like Danny had once considered himself to be, until he’d met Steve.

Of course nothing had ever happened between him and Steve, and he was relatively certain that nothing ever would. But as long as he could still be with Steve – see his smile every day, fight with him every now and then – it was okay. What he could never live with was losing Steve. He wouldn’t know how to go on if anything should happen to him. After his daughter Grace, Steve was the most important person in his life.

And that’s why he needed to check on him. Right now.

He absently grabbed some clothes out of the closet and put them on. For a moment, he considered putting on a tie, too, but that would take another two minutes. Two minutes too long. Two minutes that he couldn’t afford to waste right now.

He picked up his car keys on his way out and locked the door behind him.

It took him ten minutes of illegally fast driving to get to Steve’s house, and another two to finally bring himself to actually get of the car. Suddenly, he realized that being here was probably not such a good idea, after all. Still, he was here and he needed to check on Steve, so finally he walked to the door and rang the bell. His heart was beating rapidly in his chest, and the queasy feeling rose in his stomach. When nothing happened, he pressed the doorbell again. And then again. After several moments of silence, he rang the bell again and hammered against the door.

“Steve! Open up - it’s me, Danny!” he shouted. He could hear his heart pounding. Where the hell was Steve? And why wasn’t he opening the door?

He was a few seconds away from kicking the door open when he finally heard sounds coming from the inside. Footsteps. Five seconds later, the door opened and a dazed Steve appeared in the doorway. His hair was dishevelled and he looked utterly exhausted. Danny noticed that he was only wearing shorts, and if he hadn’t been so completely worried, he would definitely have enjoyed the view. As it was, he had more pressing concerns on his mind.

Before Steve had the chance to speak, Danny pulled him into his arms and clung to him.

“Steve! Thank God you’re okay!”

He pushed himself closer to Steve just to feel him, to feel his warm body against his own.

“What made you think I wouldn’t be?” Steve asked, and when Danny finally let him go, he saw that Steve was regarding him with a concerned expression.

Danny blushed slightly. “I – I don’t know. Just a feeling.” he answered quickly, suddenly feeling really stupid. It had just been a dream. Even if Steve was reckless most of the time, Danny was always there to keep him in line. He shouldn’t have been so worried.

“What’s wrong, Danny?” Steve asked, still looking at him. “You seem really disoriented. Did something happen?”

Danny shook his head.

“No. Not really. Just- just forget it, okay? Forget that I was even here.” He turned to leave, but suddenly Steve’s hand captured his wrist.

“Danno, talk to me,” he heard him say.

He hesitated a moment before he let out a small sigh. “It’s not important.”

“Yes, it is!” Steve answered. “I’m your friend. You can talk to me about anything.”

Danny sighed again, letting his fingers slide through his hair. Finally, he turned around to face Steve again.

“You’ll think that I’m losing my mind.”

Steve shook his head quickly. “I won’t. I promise.” He stepped aside to let Danny in, and Danny accepted the unspoken invitation.

He leaned against the door, looking down for a moment, and then raised his head to look Steve directly in the eye.

“I had a nightmare,” he admitted finally. “One of the really bad ones.”

“How bad?” Steve asked quietly.

Danny bit his lower lip. “I- I saw you getting shot and then…” His voice shook and he needed to clear his throat before he could continue. “…then you died in my arms, just like that. I couldn’t do anything. I just stood there and let it happen. I wasn’t able to save you.” He clenched his fist. “I had to watch you die, Steve.”

He felt a hand on his shoulder, and a moment later Steve pulled him into a tight embrace.

“I’m okay. I’m here, don’t you feel it?” Steve held him even closer. “I’m not going anywhere, I promise.”

Danny clung to him, resting his head against Steve’s chest.

“I’m sorry, Steve. It’s just…”

“I know, Danno. I know,” Steve cut him off. “And I understand. Meka’s death was really hard on you. It’s completely understandable that you’re afraid of losing someone else.”

“No,” Danny said, looking up at Steve. “I’m not afraid of losing someone… I’m afraid of losing you.”

“But you won’t,” Steve replied with a small smile. “Because I have you to watch out for me.”

Danny took a deep breath before he was able to speak again. “Just promise me to that you’ll try being a little more careful, ‘kay?”

Steve nodded. “I promise.”

They looked at each other for what felt like an eternity and Danny felt the mood between them shift slightly. His heart began to race again. Danny felt the tension between them rising and he held his breath. Steve placed one of his hands on Danny’s cheek, caressing it gently without saying a single word. His face drew nearer and Danny hadn’t even closed his eyes when he felt Steve’s lips on his own. He looped his arms around Steve’s neck, pulling him closer before he finally responded to the kiss.

A long moment passed, and Danny finally detached himself from Steve because he needed to breathe. He looked at Steve, confused, and took a step back until he felt the door against his back.

“What… what was that?”

“It’s called a kiss,” Steve smirked. “That’s when two people press their lips together – usually to show affection.”

Danny rolled his eyes. “Yeah, I know that, smart ass. But why did you do it? Why did you kiss me?” He wasn’t even sure if he really wanted to hear the answer; he was afraid that this was just some kind of ‘pity kiss’ because Steve felt sorry for him. “If this is a game to you, I don’t think…” he began, but Steve cut him off.

“You really think I’m playing games?”

Danny shrugged. “I don’t know.”

“You really wanna know?” Steve asked.

“Yes, I really do,” Danny nodded.

“I kissed you because I thought that maybe you feel something for me, too. The way you were looking at me… it just seemed like you wanted this as much as I did.”

For a moment Danny was at a loss for words. He stared at Steve in disbelief.

“You mean, you…”

“Yes. I want you,” Steve replied.

Danny bit his lower lip. “You mean you want to fuck me?” That wasn’t exactly what he’d imagined. Of course, he had thought about having sex with Steve. A lot, he had to admit to himself. But he didn’t want it like this. He wasn’t interested in just sex. He was crazy about Steve, in every possible way.

“No. I want you!” Steve clarified. “Of course, I’d like to do some things with you.”

Danny raised an eyebrow. “Some things?”

Steve blushed slightly. “Look, Danny, this isn’t easy for me and you’re just making it more difficult.” He sighed in frustration. “I want you. All of you. Every part of you.”

Danny felt his heart jump in his chest. “You really mean that?”

Steve nodded reassuringly. “Yes, I mean it. And if you want, I’ll show you.”

Danny couldn’t help but smile. Wordlessly, he wrapped his arms around Steve’s neck and pulled him into a lingering kiss. Maybe coming here in the middle of the night hadn’t been such a bad idea after all.
